DIY Home Security

Working in construction has given me an insight into the flaws and design problems with construction methods used in the building industry. I am often employed as an Insurance Assessor to Assess Insurance Claims and report on the damage. Companies I have Assessed for include, NRMA, GIO, APIA, etc.  But the same problems are evident in most cases. Usually the client has not had adequate security or they are away for extended periods which is evident to Vandals, Theives and Burglars.

Most claims are for damage resulting in vandals and burglars.  Having a window open to let your home ventilate, is just asking for trouble.  Not having letters and brochures removed from your letter box, is a sure sign of property neglect and vacancy. etc.

I will include a few ‘real’ photos of damage and list why it happened. Hopefully this will give you information on how you can minimise the risk of it happening to you.  Just by using a little DIY Security will benefit you greatly in the fight for safety and home security.
